How to Make Esfirra: Easy Homemade Middle Eastern Flatbread Recipe

This easy Esfirra recipe yields 8 delicious flatbreads with a soft, fluffy dough. It takes about an hour to prepare, including dough rising time. A perfect beginner-friendly recipe!

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cup flour
  • 250 ml warm water + 4 tbsp
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions
 

Dough

  • In a bowl add all the ingredients and mix to combine.
  • Knead the dough for 5 minutes.
  • Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  • Once dough has risen transfer to a floured bench.
  • Divide in 8 parts.
  • With a rolling pin roll out each part into a long shape about 26cm long x 12cm wide.
  • Fold in the edges forming a boat shape.
  • Pinch the ends to hold its shape.
  • Add your favourite filling.
  • Brush the edges with an egg yolk.
  • Bake in hot oven 220C | 428F for about 15-20 minutes
