How to Make Authentic Homemade Pita Bread – Easy and Fluffy Recipe

Equipment

  • 1 standing mixer

Ingredients
  

Starter

  • 2 1/4 tbsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup flour

Dough

  • 1 1/2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 3/4 cup flour

Instructions
 

Preparing the Starter

  • Combine flour, warm water and yeast.
  • Mix well and set aside for 15-20 minutes

Dough

  • Add the remaining ingredients to your starter and mix for about 6 minutes.
  • Shape into a ball and grease with some olive oil.
  • Cover and let it rise for 2 hours.

Shaping

  • Transfer the risen dough to a floured bench.
  • Divide into 8 parts and roll each part into a ball.
  • Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • After resting roll each ball into a disc of about 15cm.

Cooking

  • Grease a pan with some olive oil and heat it up to medium-high.
  • Cook until golden on both sides.
