Red Velvet Cake Recipe with Cream Cheese Frosting (Step-by-Step)
This classic Red Velvet Cake is a stunning, soft, and flavorful dessert with a hint of cocoa and topped with a luscious cream cheese frosting. Perfect for birthdays, holidays, or just because!
Ingredients
- 345 g flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cup sugar
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 4 egg separa yolks from whites
- 1 tsp vanilla exract
- red food coloring
- 1 cup butttermilk
Frosting
- 450 g cream cheese
- 3/4 cup unsalted buter
- 660 g powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch of salt.
Instructions
- Combine in a bowl flour, baking soda, cocoa and salt. Set Aside.
- In a standing mix bowl add sugar and butter, beat to combine.
- Then add oil, yolks, vinegar and vanilla. Mix
- Slowly add some of the dry ingredients intercalating with butter milk in each addition.
- Finally add the food coloring and mix until colour is even and there are no flour lumps in the mixture.
- In a separate bowl beat the egg white into peaks.
- Slowly fold in the egg whites in the cake batter.
- Transfer the prepared batter into 2 24cm round cake molds, lined with baking paper and oiled.
- Bake in pre heated oven 180C | 356F for about 30-35 minutes.
Frosting
- In a mix bowl combine cream cheese and butter to form a paste.
- Add sugar, vanilla and salt. Mix well.
Assembling the cake.
- Once cake is baked, remove from mold and let it cool down.
- Place cake disk over a serving tray and layer with the frosting.
- Place the second cake on top and cover it with the remaining frosting.
